Terms of service

The terms for using mellow lingo and the responsibilities we share.

Effective and last updated

These terms apply to the website and vocabulary-learning service provided by mellow lingo, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Using the service

mellow lingo provides vocabulary explanations, examples, practice questions, and progress-based review. The service is for learning and personal use; it does not provide an accredited qualification or guarantee a particular educational, professional, or examination outcome.

You must be at least 13 and legally able to agree to these terms. If you are below the age of majority where you live, you must have a parent or guardian's permission. You must also comply with laws that apply to your use of the service.

2. Your account

Provide accurate account information and keep your sign-in credentials secure. You are responsible for activity you authorise through your account. Do not share credentials, impersonate another person, or use an account that you are not entitled to access. Contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.

Email/password sign-in and optional Google sign-in are available. Google sign-in is also subject to Google's terms. Keep access to your email address and any connected sign-in provider so that you can receive important account messages and recover access.

3. Acceptable use

Use the service in a way that respects other people, the content, and the security of the app. You must not:

  • Attempt to access another user's information or bypass authentication, access controls, or rate limits.
  • Disrupt the service, introduce malicious code, or overload it with automated requests.
  • Use the service for unlawful activity, harassment, fraud, or infringement of another person's rights.
  • Copy, scrape, redistribute, or commercially exploit the app or its content beyond what we authorise or applicable law permits.
  • Submit reports or communications containing information you are not entitled to share.

4. Content and feedback

The app, its original learning material, design, and branding belong to mellow lingo or their respective rights holders. We give you a limited, non-exclusive permission to access the service for your own learning, subject to these terms. Third-party quotations and other attributed material remain subject to their applicable rights and licences; these terms do not restrict rights that the law or an applicable licence already gives you.

You retain any rights in feedback or reports you submit. You permit us to use those submissions to operate, support, and improve the service, subject to our privacy policy. Do not include unnecessary sensitive or confidential information in feedback.

5. Privacy and account communications

Our privacy policy explains how we collect, use, retain, and share personal information, including Google sign-in data and learning activity. Please read it alongside these terms.

We send emails needed to provide and protect your account, such as verification and password recovery messages. Using the account service does not enrol you in a marketing mailing list.

6. Availability and changes

We may update learning material, correct questions, change features, or temporarily suspend the service for maintenance, security, or operational reasons. We aim to preserve saved progress, but continuous availability and uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed.

The current app has no paid checkout or recurring subscription billing. Any paid offering would require clearly disclosed pricing and payment terms before you agree to a purchase. Creating an account does not by itself authorise a charge.

7. Ending your use or account access

You can stop using the service at any time. To request closure of your account and deletion of its personal information, email support@mellowlingo.com. Signing out or disconnecting Google does not delete your account. We will handle requests as explained in the privacy policy and applicable law.

We may restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to address a breach of these terms, unlawful use, or a security risk. Where appropriate and practicable, we will explain the reason and give you an opportunity to address the issue.

8. Learning material and liability

Learning material may contain mistakes, and reasonable people may differ about wording or usage. Please report problems so we can review them. The service is provided on an as-available basis and, to the extent permitted by law, without promises that every item is error-free or that it will meet every individual need.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of, or inability to use, the service. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits mandatory consumer rights, statutory warranties, or other protections available to you.

9. Applicable law and concerns

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the applicable federal laws of Canada, subject to any mandatory protections provided by the laws where you live. No provision requires you to give up a legal right that cannot be waived.

If you have a concern or dispute, please contact us so we can try to resolve it. These terms do not require mandatory arbitration or prevent you from seeking remedies available under applicable law.

10. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms as the service changes. We will publish the updated terms with a new date and provide additional notice for material changes where required. Changes will not remove rights you already have under applicable law. If you do not agree to updated terms, you may stop using the service and request account closure.
